Improve navigation and search

It can be very difficult to find projects through navigation and search generally returns press releases and other news first instead of project pages.

I complained about this for Robonaut here: https://plus.google.com/113877329140724398251/posts/RhCVmobaqpR

  1. A more customizable search function would be great. Not sure how NASA prioritizes the returned hits, but it can take awhile to dig down to find what I want. Also--when I type something into a search box, I want to be able to hit return to start the search. Why does NASA make me click?

  2. For example. The "missions" page used to have "one click" links to each mission's home page. Now it clicks to a summary page, which clicks to the home page.

  3. I agree with the above. Also I would like to be able to enter a topic once and have it return all available results whether they are multimedia, press releases, documents, etc.

  4. I have typed in proper report titles complete with their NASA alpha numeric designation that yielded no results. Archivists have helped me get the reports I wanted, but I'm sure they have more important things to do... If Google can be so very effective, why can't NASA? There is a huge, impressive treasure trove of information in the NASA web pages... I just regret that some of it is so difficult to access! Y'all need a better search engine.

  5. What everyone else said... I think what we want is a themed Google Custom Search...

  7. My experiences with the search engine NASA uses is not very good at all. Sometimes I get something useful but usually I get a line or two that is not useful at all. Most of the subjects are 'current' but not so new that nothing or very little should be the retrieval result.
