space events observation

a good Idea may be tracking notable events in our solar system (comets , planets closing earth . etc) and other events that can be seen with naked eye or basic equipment

this can be interesting too .. as well as space techonologies and discoveries

  5. I voted this down, because there are two issues here.

One is why the calendar isn't populated. And having worked at NASA for years, the answer to me seems obvious: I had absolutely no idea that my project or even my division had any say into submitting calendar events. And if we had known, well, we might not have done anything. It may be important for the webmasters, etc., to proactively prod projects for potentially interesting calendar dates.

Where I disagree is posting celestial events. First, NASA does not own the universe, lol. It's not specifically their job to report natural events. Second, I can't think of any USEFUL criteria to select which celestial events are important. To me, clear views of Mars are important ... for my own reasons. I found important the evenings a few years ago when objects that were all in our solar plane were lined up astonishing, becuse I could vividly see how our solar system was laid out! On the other hand, I don't even go out to watch other events some people find interesting. More broadly, to me, an important celestial event is not just one that's rare, but where there's an opportunity for me to do a bit of my own science.

In sum, I would prefer not to see the calendar cluttered with events which can be found on other sites, are not directly NASA's concern, and are very subjectively selected. I want to hear about NASA experimental results, new projects, milestones.

  6. This as a tracking report users can click into for proximity objects is a great idea! Theh those who want to astrophotograph or simply watch with 'scopes when possible will have a nice advanced notice with this.

  7. There are other websites that offer that Kind of information. It's not NASA's job to inform the world every time something happens in the sky, besides NASA already does a good job helping us watch the sky.
